Learn Guitar on Youtube! #10

Scales! C Major “Ionian” 1 octave and 2 octave drill

In the key of C, we will learn new finger exercises, on top of the earlier-learned 1,2,3,4 drill. This drill was comprised of pressing down the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and finally 4th frets on the low E string, and then do this on the next string, next string, then back down in opposite order, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and lastly 1st.

First is the 1 octave scale. Dedicate one finger to a fret. We will play certain notes: 2 and 4 on the first string, 1, 2, 4 on the second string, and then 1, 3, 4 on the third string. This is all done in the order given, and then go down the opposite way, as in the previous exercise.

On the 2 octave scale we use all of the strings. Same notes for the first three strings, and then: 1, 3, and 4 on the fourth string, 2 and 4 on the fifth string, and lastly 1 and 2 on the sixth(high E) string. It is of great importance to learn tabs for later use because it will further improve your guitar playing. Practice these drills daily to better your dexterity.
